What is JEE Advanced?
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced is one of the most prestigious engineering entrance exams in India. Conducted annually by one of the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), it serves as the gateway to undergraduate engineering programs at the IITs, IISc, and a few other top institutions in India.
Who Conducts JEE Advanced?
The exam is organized by the IITs on a rotational basis under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). The exam’s primary aim is to assess a student’s problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and in-depth understanding of concepts in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Eligibility Criteria
JEE Main Qualification: Candidates must rank among the top performers in JEE Main to be eligible.
Age Limit: General category candidates must be born on or after October 1, 2000. A relaxation of 5 years is provided for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
Number of Attempts: Candidates can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in consecutive years.
Educational Qualification: Candidates should have passed their Class 12th (or equivalent) examination with relevant subjects.
Exam Format
Mode: Online (Computer-Based Test)
Papers: The exam consists of two papers, each of 3 hours duration. Both papers are compulsory.
Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Question Types: A mix of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs), numerical-based problems, and matching type questions.
Marking Scheme: Varies each year, with partial, full, and negative marking depending on the question type.
